Hi! For those of you that don’t know me, I am Kyle Durham. Just a few weeks ago I was elected your incoming President for The Association, most commonly known as ISIADA. We had an exciting Annual General Membership meeting up in northern Idaho, where we discussed many issues that affect our industry. Each month, I will keep you updated on the most current and important items that we as your Board of Directors are diligently working on for YOU—our members!
Like many of you, I grew up in the car business. My father is Dale from Dale’s Auto Sales on Chinden Boulevard in Boise. He opened his dealership when I was just two years old. Back then he started with a gravel lot and a single strand of clear Christmas lights strung between the power poles. I started pulling weeds, picking litter up off the lot, and sweeping, until I got a little older and finally graduated to washing cars. So, I literally grew up in the car business.
My resume includes lot boy, detailer, mechanic, salesman, manager, buyer—and janitor. And once in a while, I still have to do all of that in a single day! For obvious reasons, I have always been close to Dale’s Auto Sales, but back in high school I worked for Meridian Ford, and after college I worked for Bronco Motors and Edmark Chevrolet. After about ten years, I came back to Dale’s Auto Sales and since 1998 I have had the privilege of working for my dad again.
I attended the University of Idaho, where I played football during the 1989-1990 season. One of the highlights of my college years was bringing home the Big Sky Championship that year. I then transferred to Boise State University, where I graduated in May 1994 with my Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management.
I have proudly been serving on the Board of Directors of ISIADA since 1998 and have been the Chairman for the Legislative Committee for nearly all of that time. Because legislative issues have always been of immense interest to me, rest assured that The Association will make certain it stays on top of important topics that might have an impact on independent car dealers. We have worked hard in the past to protect the interest of all of us in the industry and will continue to stay abreast of and fight for issues that could have a negative impact on all of us.
We have some exciting changes that we have been working on coming your way. The first is this new website. It has been in the works for a long time, as we have been trying to bring you the most user-friendly, yet state-of-the-art website possible. We hope you find this beneficial as you can now register for education classes online and order products and forms without having to call in to the office. In fact, you’ll want to be one of the first to log-in and order the new license plate stickers. ITD has created a sticker to be placed appropriately on the back of dealer, loaner, and laden plates that explains in layman’s terms what the permissive use of each type of plate is under Idaho Code. That way if a patrolman stops you, your family member, or your customer, they can be shown the sticker with ITD’s official stamp for plate usage clarification. Ultimately, avoiding an argument with a police officer and possibly even avoiding a citation. These stickers are available now and can be ordered on this website. And, to sweeten the deal, all current Association members can request their first ten for FREE!
Thanks for allowing me to serve you for the next couple of years. I look forward to working with your 2015-2016 Board of Directors for the betterment of the independent used car industry as a whole!
